A Sea of Gratitude

Posted by Brian Bailey on February 6, 2008

This is from one of our local supporters.  Please take a moment to read it.

John and Brent both stood in the freezing and torrential rain for hours on end at the polling place handing out slim jims and walking people across the street with an umbrella.

From The Paulunteer Mailbox:

May I commend Brent and John for their extraordinary diligence in the face of God’s meteorological wrath today.  Also, may I commend everyone else who worked on the campaign.

Even though it’s often very difficult to identify specific and immediate tangible results of our efforts, I really believe that the unrealized direct and indirect consequences of our work are immense. For instance, if we educate one person on the libertarian ideals of Ron Paul, perhaps they’ll educate three more people, then those three people could each educate three more people, etc.  Through this exponential chain reaction of ideas, one contact could lead to the education of millions in the distant future.

It’s also possible that one of those millions of people you’ve influenced will have the charisma of Ronald Reagan and the financial resources of Ross Perot.  If you’ve indirectly contributed to this person’s adoption of the ideals of Ron Paul and this person is elected president, the one initial contact that you made during this campaign has the potential to change the course of history.  A single conversation literally has the potential to produce an age of liberty, the material benefits to mankind of which could be so enormous that we can’t even comprehend them.

It’s most natural for us to focus on the corruption of our political system and the violations of our liberty by our government.  However, we rarely think about how much worse it could be.  Consider the many countries around the world where armed warlords rule with violence.  The average individual has no electoral influence over their society and no societal institution to protect any degree of individual freedom.

Consider how government media control and intellectual laziness of the population in Russia leads to tyrants like Vladimir Putin winning in landslides. It could just as easily be that way in US, too. The majority of our population will accept anything the corporate media puts in front of them without question.  The only reason we haven’t ended up completely throwing away our republic like Russia, where elections are merely a quaint formality producing a foregone conclusion, is due to the existence of people like you.

I’d hate to imagine what our country would be today were it not for the extraordinarily effort of great individuals such as yourselves.

Thank you,
Mike P. Sinn
