SF Straw Poll Canceled - too many Ron Paul supporters (w/ video)
From a supporter’s post at Daily Paul:
The San Francisco Straw Poll was canceled tonight because there were too many Ron Paul supports. I arrived at 7:00 for dinner, speeches by representatives of each candidate and then a straw poll.
(video below the fold)
Unfortunately, at around 9:45pm when the straw poll was about to take place, Gail Neira of the SF Republican Alliance, announced that she was cancelling the straw poll because it was unfair. She was referring to the approximately 40 Ron Paul supports that were standing in the back of the room with Ron Paul signs. She went on to say that she was overwhelmed by the number of Ron Paul supports that showed up, but by that time the crowd was in an uproar.
I was outraged and so was everyone else. It was very difficult to hold back the emotions and remain calm. I can only imagine what will happen in the primaries, when too many Ron Paul supporters show up. Will they just cancel the elections?
To be accurate, the dinner was $33 and Gail allowed people who didn’t want to eat or couldn’t make it in time for dinner to pay $5 to participate in the straw poll later in the evening. This wasn’t really the issue, since most of the people that showed up would have paid the $33 and said so, when she used money as an excuse.
The event was caught on film and there will be a YouTube video soon. It’s great to be a part of the Ron Paul R[EVOL]UTION.

That is straight utter bullshit…
yeah , it is, but it doesn’t surprise me one bit! I’m glad to see that Ron Paul has support all over the country .
If the elections get cancelled , I don’t think it will be because there are too many Paul supporters however
So the hall was not packed with Fred Thompson supporters?
What would Putin or Chavez have done in a situation like this?
Last week Romney supporters had to vote 2o to 50 times a piece to win in Florida with Ron paul -one vote per person- comes in second. Then in Virginia, Ron Paul wins when the vote is counted correctly .
In California the Republican hucksters cancel rather than see their lame candidate-Thompson-soundly defeated.
Ron Paul for President!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So you assholes tried to mobilize and distort a straw poll and then get surprised when they cancel it?
Anonymous…How proper that you come in as anonymous. Idiot troll.
Your argument is illogical. So, when we “moblize and distort” the primaries and general election, will you call us assholes too?
I hope so…I just wish I could see your face when it happens. Fucking idiot.
I was thinking about going to this straw poll last night…I’m glad I didn’t….If I did I wouldn’t have brought any Ron Paul signs and made myself stick out. And if someone asked I would have said I supported another candidate till I actually voted. You guys keep shooting yourselves in the foot. We will win the primary though.
I bet if the crowd was Fred Thompson supports then they would have been welcome with open arms.

Everyone messes with straw polls. Election fraud is as old as elections. RP supporters have voted multiple times, they just don’t get paid to =)
I thought Kerry would be the Massachusetts Liberal to win in 04′… Romney wants to be the same in 08′.
Just ‘distort’ the primary just like this and it’ll work out fine…..
Yeah, they’re not gonna be happy when we spambot the election…
It was wrong that they cancelled the straw poll. But going into the meeting with Ron Paul signs was self destructive. If you belive in Ron Pauls ideas then you are the real GOP. If we want to win we have to work with the GOP. Lets not play to there sterotype of us.
Knowing how the GOP feels about Ron Paul, I would ask all Ron Paul supporters to NOT bring/wear anything Ron Paul to any future GOP event. I think this same thing happened at an older straw poll and will likely happen in future ones.
We should learn from this mistake and not bring/wear anything Ron Paul when we go vote in the primaries. Or else our voter registration will suddenly go missing…
103 Diggs. This has the potential to get Popular if you Digg it.
I agree with Anonymous #2 (the above). Next timedon’t show up with signs, don’t cheer or boo, just sit quiet and vote when it comes time. That kind of behavior will speak many times louder than sign-waving and shouting.
That’s in absurd solution. They want to censor you, so you censor yourself instead? Stand tall and support your candidate proudly! If they pull this crap, it’s just another media opportunity. By them closing this poll, Ron Paul won it.
When I visit GOP meeting the first thing I do is start talking with people. I get to know them, I look for areas of agreement. Integrity in government, less spending and lower taxes, U.S sovereignty. If they ask me who I support I will tell them Ron Paul. If I have built up enough credibility and trust they may even consider changing there support to Ron Paul. Or at least become open to his message.
If they’re gonna start canceling stuff because we’re too “obnoxious” let’s put a lid on it; I’m afraid that too much obnoxious exposure for name recognition is going to backfire and cause the public to vote against the sign-wavers….?
I agree with those who say we should tone it down and keep our affiliation under our hats. By the time you get to a strawpoll, most people there have already made up their mind who they are going to vote for. I agree with what Jessica said - who knows what dirty tricks they are going to pull in the primaries and general election. Our voter registration might dissapear and then what will we do? There could be revolt and Bush will cancel the elections, and then martial law?? I don’t think I go too far in saying that it’s a distinct, imaginable possibility. We should all get a hard copy of our voter registrations, signed and dated by a notary btw. They are going to pull every dirty trick in the book this time. We’ve got to be prepared!
If you really want to do the most good then go to these events dressed in plain clothes. However, when you get there start talking. Start asking people about what they are looking for in the next president. Ask if they have heard about Ron Paul. Ask if they know about his stance on their issues. Find out what is important to them and show them that the candidate that they really want is, indeed, Ron Paul.
All it takes is for each of us to sit down with others and spread the word one-by-one. There is power in the people, and WE are the people.
John: I couldn’t agree more.
Walk soft ,carry big stick. Tone it down, there is a time and place for everything.
Wow you guys these neo cons have already shown us how they intend to play this game of politics.we must play a better game if Dr Paul is to have a chance.Lets wise up..tone it down a bit.

Let’s hope San Fransisco won’t be a thorn in Americas side for much longer, The next big quake will send SF crumbling into the Pacific. And the sooner the better!
Priceless video! She should be dressed as the Grinch, not Santa.
Tone it down! Don’t be rediculis.
It’s time to kick it up a notch.
In 2000, I switched to the GOP to vote for McCain in the California primary, because I could see upfront what an absolute disaster a Bush presidency would become. The only reason that we are not having a Bush depression is because they are cooking the books, and when inflation runs rampant like in Zimbabwe, well, someone else will have to clean up the mess just like every business that Shrub ran into the ground and had to have Poppy bail him out of.
At this time I am a Democrat for Ron Paul, because he is the only honest candidate besides Dennis Kucinich, who has an image problem (but a knockout beautiful wife).
I just read on ronpaulforums that ron now leads in wv delegates.
Next time, just go there as a republican, not waving signs around saying you’re a ron paul supporter.
If you all had just shown up dressed in business casual or even suits, they’d have been unaware until they counted the results, and then they’d be forced to lie about the results.
nobody said “censor yourself”, like Tom suggests above.
The point is, if you are discrete, then they have no idea who you are going to vote for. Holding up a sign isn’t going to win over voters in a straw poll, but if the organizers support someone else, or specifically dislike the candidate whose name is on your sign, well, why give that information away for huge loss and no gain??
